Surprisingly good.Jan 17, 2009
By Jon M. Nelson I have this dictionary, along with the M-W Collegiate (8th ed.), the American Heritage Dictionary (4th ed.), and an American Heritage Desk Dictionary, along with a number of pocket dictionaries. This Pocket Oxford American Dictionary has a surprising number of definitions. I've found words in this dictionary that aren't in my M-W or A-H Desk Dictionary, and the definitions are clear and concise. It also has lots of usage notes that are easy to understand and are very helpful. This is a great dictionary, regardless of cost, and it's nice that it's reasonably portable as well. I highly recommend it.

Has no rootsOct 28, 2009

"Lady Odessa"
This is a wonderful dictionary for the price. The reason I gave it 4 stars, it has no roots. You have no idea if the word is from Latin,or Old English.

Very goodJan 30, 2010
By Wei Zhang I am a graduate student in NYC. Not a native speaker of English. The reason I bought this dictionary is because I felt tired with searching internet for some usage of a phrase or a slang. This dictionary is handy and really informative - it includes many frequently used phrases, and also provides some examples for explanation. Very good for me.

Big pocketsFeb 01, 2010
By DS This is a great dictionary, though I wouldn't call it a "pocket" dictionary. I was looking for something on the smaller side to keep in my backpack for college but this is too big. It is my own fault for not reading the dimensions. I will keep it at home though.

Perfect Coffee Table DictionaryJul 25, 2012
By J. O'Keefe This 978 page dictionary is definitely not for a pocket - except perhaps in an overcoat. However, this is the best coffee table or side-desk dictionary I have used because it has a large quantity of words and it is simply a pleasure to pick-up and grasp - much of which comes from being a paperback. It is ergonomically right-sized. After buying one for me, I have since purchased three more (two for my children and one for their friend as a graduation gift). This book does not include the etymology of any word and it is written with a small font size, but this allows the book to be jammed with so many words. This is not a discounted book, but it is fairly priced because I use it most everyday.
